Nothing local quite says “the magic of summer” to me like Farmer’s Markets. Sure, I’d argue that beachfront views might feel more seasonal to me, but that’s cheating: I said local. While Des Moines has a dauntingly huge Farmer’s Market every week that regularly ranks top in the Midwest, Cedar Falls still has a relaxing Farmer’s Market close to home. From 8:30 until noon on Saturdays throughout the summer, you can drop into the outdoor market near Main Street to meet your home-grown needs.
While our local Cedar Falls Farmer’s Market is heavy on the vegetables, some non-vegetable vendors show up as well. There’s usually a few flower vendors and jewelry vendors as well as quite a few Iowa Pride items – such as beautiful, handcrafted wooden cutting boards in the shape of Iowa! This past weekend, I even discovered the delicious Cedar Falls Bowls of Love group that shows up just for Farmer’s Markets. Their smoothies were amazing, and I know what’s going to bring me to the market every Saturday until Fall hits!
Relive part of the fun of early morning vegetable and home-grown shopping through some of these photos. And don’t forget to make it out to the Cedar Falls Farmer’s Market when you can!
